You should go and love yourself:

I was recently surfing on one of my social media platforms and I stumbled across at quote- ”And if I asked you to name all the things you love in your life, how long would it take for you to name yourself?”

I thought, “this is easy” and started rattling things off in my mind. There are plenty of things that I love and that bring me joy in my life on a daily basis. It was then that I had to read that part again did it really hit me, as I noticed that I had put myself further down on the list.

In the hustle and bustle culture that we live in, we tend to fill our lives to the brim. I too am guilty of this at times, but we have a tendency to put all things and people ahead of ourselves, and we do not give thought to the idea that the love and grace we so freely give others we can and must also turn inwards and give to ourselves.

Learning to love ourselves and our journey, even when we don’t feel lovable at times, allows us the space to commit and put into practice prioritizing our own self care, and self love. And I don’t mean spa days or golf days, while those too are great, I too also think that our culture has also taught us that self care and self love need to be extravagant to make an impact, which is entirely misleading. I often tell my patients, self care and self love can come in many forms, and sometimes the most simplest acts of love can make the biggest impact. It’s a matter of doing things that bring us joy regardless of it is curling up with a good book, a warm blanket and a candle, or going out hiking. Whatever you do that brings you joy is the perfect act of honoring the next best thing for you to take care of yourself and your heart.

Whatever love looks like to you, I encourage you to take it up a notch and do something today to show regard for your own well-being and happiness, being grateful for the love you have to give to yourself and to others.
